Ingredients

Cinnamon Pepper Sugar:

  • ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp (4g) ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp (2g) finely ground black pepper

French Toast Sticks:

  • ½ loaf of unsliced sandwich bread (such as a Pullman loaf)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1.5 tsp (5g) ground cinnamon
  • 1 Tbsp (12g) granulated sugar
  • ⅓ cup (80ml) whole milk
  • 1 Tbsp unsalted butter
  • Maple syrup, for serving

Directions

Cinnamon Pepper Sugar:

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together all the ingredients until combined. Set aside.

French Toast Sticks:

  1. Cut the bread into 1” (2.5cm) slices and then cut each slice into 1” (2.5cm) batons.
  2. In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, and cinnamon. Once combined, whisk in the milk until homogenous.
  3. Heat a medium nonstick pan over medium heat and add the butter to melt.
  4. Dip the bread batons into the egg mixture, making sure to coat all sides.
  5. Add the bread to the hot skillet and cook on all sides for about 1 minute per side or until golden brown.
  6.  Immediately remove from the pan and toss in the cinnamon pepper sugar to fully coat.
  7. Plate and serve with maple syrup.
