American Ham and Cheese
- 2 slices white loaf bread
- 4-6 slices of smoked ham, thinly sliced
- 2 slices American cheese
- 1 slice pepper jack cheese
- 2 Tbsp (28g) unsalted butter softened
French Ham and Cheese (Croque Madame)
Mornay Topping:
- 1 Tbsp (14g) butter
- 1 Tbsp (12g) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (237ml) milk
- 1 cup (80g) grated gruyere cheese
- pinch of fresh nutmeg
- Chives for garnish, thinly sliced (Optional)
- salt and pepper to taste
Assembly:
- 2 slices of sourdough bread, ½” thick
- 1 1/4 cup (100g) grated gruyere cheese
- 4-6 slices of french boiled ham
- 2-3 Tbsp (28g-42g) unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup (40g) grated Emmental cheese
